Crossing Roads In Pune Proves Fatal, 30 Pedestrians Killed In Three Months

Pune, 26th April 2023: Shocking data revealed that in the first three months of this year, 30 pedestrians lost their lives while attempting to cross the roads in Pune.
According to the Pune city traffic police, 28 accidents resulted in 30 pedestrian deaths between January and March 2023, making it a serious issue that needs to be addressed immediately.
The traffic police urged the public to follow safety guidelines while crossing roads, such as using sidewalks or walking on the right side of the road if there is no pavement. Pedestrians should not obstruct traffic and cross only at zebra crossings when the traffic is visible on both sides. People should not attempt to cross roads in haste or jump over road railings. Children, women, seniors, disabled, and blind people must be helped when crossing the road.
Last year, in 2022, Pune witnessed 107 fatal accidents resulting in 107 pedestrian deaths and 145 serious injuries to pedestrians. The number of fatalities in just three months in 2023 is a grave concern for the city.
Harshad Abhyankar, Director of the Save Pune Traffic Movement, pointed out that pedestrian accidents are often caused by driver negligence. However, pedestrians should also take precautions while crossing the road, emphasizing that they should be careful and take measures to move from one safe place to another.
