Cyber Thieves Steal Rs 9 Lakh In Three Cases In Pune

Pune, 9th November 2021: Cases have been registered against cyber thieves for embezzling Rs 9 lakh 15 thousand in three instances in Pune.

 

In the first case, the accused lured a young man living in Ganesh Peth to give him a good return through digital marketing ‘super like’ app. The youth paid 3.42 lakh rupees. Meanwhile, the complainant was sent Rs 39,262 online to his bank account as a refund. However, the remaining 3 lakh 2 thousand 738 rupees were not returned. The accused then shut down the company’s website. After realizing that he had been cheated, the complainant lodged an FIR at the Faraskhana police station. The incident took place in February 2021. The crime is being further investigated by Sub-Inspector Landge.

 

In another case, a 30-year-old man was forced to send Rs 18,000 under the pretext of buying a laptop in an advertisement on the OLX app and was not given any laptop. After realizing that he has been cheated, the youth has lodged a complaint against the stranger at the Sinhagad Road police station. This incident occurred between 15 July and 16 July 2021.

 

In the third incident, a 45-year-old woman received a message on her mobile phone from August 21 to August 24 at Bibwewadi. The woman was told to update her KYC within 24 hours or else her account would be suspended. The person who called took the mobile number of the woman’s father, giving various reasons, and called him. A case has been registered against the woman’s father for taking all the bank account information and OTP number and withdrawing Rs 5 lakh 94,500 online from the joint account of the woman and her father. The woman then lodged a complaint at the Bibwewadi police station alleging online fraud. Crime Inspector Anita Hivarkar is conducting further investigation into the crime.
