New Delhi, 11th January 2022: The Center has once again extended the deadline for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2020-21 by three months from December 31, 2021, to March 15, 2022.

This means that taxpayers can now file their income tax returns for the financial year 2020-2021 or assessment year 2021-2022 by March 15, 2022. This information was given by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the Revenue Department of the Ministry of Finance, the decision has been taken to extend the deadline due to difficulties being faced by the taxpayers due to the increasing cases of Covid. The notification also said that due to problems faced in the e-filing of various audit reports under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, the time limit has also been extended.
