Delhi jewel thief arrested in Pune

Pimpri : Officials from Pune city police’s Pimpri police station and Delhi Police on Saturday nabbed a notorious fraudster who has allegedly duped 10 jewellers in the national capital and fled with about 29 kg gold.

The arrested accused has been identified as Anuj Vinodkumar Gupta alias Rinku Agarwal (37), a resident of Bahadurgadh in Jhajhar district of Haryana.

According to police, Gupta has cheated Ankuldas Narendranath Das of Karolbagh, Delhi, and nine other jewellers by decamping with their 29 kg gold. While investigating the case, a team led by police sub inspector Ajay Dalal received information that Gupta was hiding in a hotel in the jurisdiction of Pimpri police station.

Senior police inspector Vivek Muglikar, in-charge of Pimpri police station, said, “We raided Hotel Kamakshi in Chinchwad and found that the accused was staying there with his wife and two children. The room was booked in his wife’s name. He has been handed over to Delhi Police for further investigation”.
