Pune, 29 March 2021: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is also the Guardian Minister of Pune District, today visited Fashion Street in Camp where a massive fire gutted over 600 stalls on Friday night. The vendors are seeking compensation for the loss. Pawar asked for a report on total damages in the next three days.

He reached Fashion Street around 5.30 pm to take stock of the situation. He was accompanied by District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh, Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) officials, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chandrakant Sangle and Senior Police Inspector Ashok Kadam of Lashkar Police Station.

Pawar inspected the burnt shops and also interacted with the shopkeepers who told him about the extensive damage. After hearing their plight, Pawar gave the order to the District Collector to assess the damages at the Fashion Street Market in the next three days and a report should be submitted during the meeting on Friday.

According to shopkeepers, the livelihood of about 10,000 people was dependent on the stalls which sold garments, shoes, goggles and other accessories.

Fashion Street on Mahatma Gandhi Road (MG Road) is the most preferred destination for young shoppers. The vendors on MG Road were rehabilitated by the Pune Cantonment Board in the year 2000 at the current location which is known as Fashion Street.
