Pune, 12th November 2023: The district administration has initiated land acquisition proceedings on the eastern route of the ring road proposed by the Maharashtra Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Responding to the concerns raised by farmers in the affected 12 villages in Khed taluka, the district administration has extended the deadline for giving consent letters for land allotment until November 30.

The ring road project, undertaken by the Road Corporation, aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities. The project is divided into two phases, East and West, with 60 percent of the land on the western route already acquired. Land acquisition notices have been dispatched to residents in villages along the eastern route, particularly affecting 12 villages in Khed taluka under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

Local residents brought to the attention of the district administration that the assessed land rates in these villages were set too low. Following discussions with Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, the farmers requested an extension of the deadline for land acquisition notices and a reassessment of the land rates. The proposal for an extension was subsequently approved during a review meeting of the committee overseeing the ring road project.

Simultaneously, the meeting also addressed the status of land acquisition on the western route. Land acquisition in 32 out of 34 villages is in its final stages, with 653 hectares out of 721 already acquired. In the eastern part, 105 hectares of land have been successfully acquired. The district administration emphasized its commitment to fair compensation and transparent assessment processes during the acquisition.
