Pune, 28th October 2026: The Pune traffic police have restricted the entry of goods vehicles into the city’s central market areas during the daytime to prevent traffic congestion amid the Diwali shopping rush. The restrictions came into effect on October 26 and will remain in force until November 12.

Under the restrictions, goods vehicles will be allowed to enter the designated areas only between 9 pm and 9 am for deliveries and unloading.

The restrictions cover major commercial areas, including Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, Tilak Road, Bajirao Road, Mahatma Phule Mandai, Shanipar, Tulshibaug, Bohri Ali in Raviwar Peth, Ganesh Peth, Shukrawar Peth, Pasodya Vithoba Chowk, Moti Chowk and Tapkir Galli in Budhwar Peth.

These areas attract large numbers of shoppers during Diwali, with people from across Pune and its suburbs visiting the markets to purchase clothes and other festive items. The movement of goods vehicles during the day could worsen traffic congestion and inconvenience shoppers and other road users.

To prevent such disruptions, the traffic police have directed goods transporters to schedule deliveries during the permitted hours, between 9 pm and 9 am.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakre said the restrictions had been imposed in view of the expected increase in shoppers during the festive season. He appealed to transporters to adhere to the designated timings and avoid entering the restricted market areas during the day.
