Pune Metro Work: Traffic Restrictions Imposed on Chandani Chowk–Kothrud Stretch
Kothrud, 28th October 2026: The Pune traffic police have prohibited heavy vehicles and passenger buses from travelling from Chandani Chowk towards Kothrud Depot following the commencement of metro extension work between Vanaz and Chandani Chowk. The restriction has been imposed to facilitate construction and ensure road safety along the stretch.
As part of the metro extension project, metal barricades are being installed along both sides of the road divider between Vanaz Metro Station and Chandani Chowk. The road from Chandani Chowk towards Kothrud Depot has a steep gradient. To prevent heavy vehicles from entering this stretch, a height barrier will be installed in front of Prathamesh Elite Society.
The restriction applies to dumpers, concrete mixers, goods vehicles, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses and private passenger buses. The traffic police have appealed to drivers to avoid the restricted route and use alternative roads.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakre has advised motorists to take the alternative route via Chandani Chowk, Dukkar Khind, Warje, Karvenagar, Karve Road and Paud Phata Chowk to reach their destinations.
Meanwhile, construction work on the underground metro corridor between Swargate and Katraj has also begun. The traffic police have introduced traffic changes on Satara Road and in the Market Yard area to facilitate the work.
Residents have also raised concerns about traffic congestion near Bhapkar Chowk on Satara Road. They have alleged that vehicles parked in front of City Pride cinema are obstructing traffic movement.
