Doctor Booked for Defrauding Patient of 1.37 Crore Rupees in Hospital Investment Scam

Wakad, 31st January 2025: A case has been registered against a doctor in Wakad, Pune, for allegedly defrauding a patient and his wife of ₹1.37 crore under the pretence of a hospital investment scheme. The incident occurred between 18th June 2021, and 18th December 2024, at Spandan Multispeciality Hospital in Thergaon.

Dr Abhinav Khare, the accused, reportedly lured the 68-year-old victim with promises of high returns and a 50% partnership in the hospital. The victim, who was seeking asthma treatment, was persuaded to invest in the hospital over a period of three years.

According to the police report, Dr Khare collected a total of Rs 1.37 Crore from the patient and his wife. After receiving the money, the doctor allegedly shut down the hospital and disposed of the medical equipment without the investors’ knowledge.

The victim filed a complaint at Wakad Police Station, leading to the registration of a case against Dr Khare for fraud and breach of trust.
