Delhi, 23rd May 2023: In a remarkable display of resilience and growth, India’s domestic airlines have witnessed a substantial increase in the number of passengers carried. Recent traffic data submitted by various domestic airlines reveals a record-breaking figure of 503.92 lakh passengers, representing an impressive annual growth rate of 42.85% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, which recorded 352.75 lakh passengers.

This extraordinary surge in passenger numbers underscores the robustness of India’s aviation industry and showcases the ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and provide convenient travel options for citizens across the nation. The significant rise in passengers signifies a growing demand for air travel, illustrating the positive trajectory of the aviation sector.

Furthermore, the month-on-month (MoM) growth rate between April 2022 and April 2023 has increased by 22.18%, reaffirming the sustained momentum of the domestic airline industry. This consistent growth serves as a testament to the collective endeavors of airlines, airports, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in nurturing a safe, efficient, and customer-centric aviation ecosystem.

In addition to the commendable growth in passenger numbers, the overall cancellation rate for scheduled domestic flights in April 2023 remained impressively low at 0.47%. Moreover, the number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried during the same month reached a minimal level of approximately 0.28. These achievements are the result of meticulous planning, operational efficiency, and proactive measures taken by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and airlines. Despite the challenges posed by the two-year COVID-19 slowdown, they have ramped up operations to ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers.

Expressing his satisfaction with the industry’s progress, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, emphasized the instrumental role played by all stakeholders in driving the growth of the aviation sector and positioning India as a global aviation hub. Scindia expressed delight at the steady expansion of the domestic airline industry, noting that it not only strengthens the country’s economy but also connects people nationwide. The Ministry reaffirms its dedication to fostering a favorable environment for the aviation industry to thrive, continuing to collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate sustainable growth and ensure the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and passenger satisfaction.
