Pune, 24th October 2023: New revelations have come to light in the case involving Lalit Patil, who was arrested in a major drug racket last year. A recently released CCTV footage from Hinjewadi Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad police) shows Patil’s alleged fall down the stairs, which led to his nine-month stay at Sassoon Hospital, was apparently staged.

Lalit Patil, accused number 21 in a 22-person drug racket, was originally apprehended along with two drug sellers and three buyers at a dhaba in Shell Pipalgaon, Chakan area. Upon further investigation, Patil was identified as the mastermind behind the operation. Subsequently, he was produced in court and remanded to police custody for 14 days.

Two days into the police investigation, on December 12th, 2020, Patil ostensibly fell down the stairs while at the Hinjewadi Police Station. Initially taken to Pune District Hospital in Sangvi, he was later shifted to Sassoon Hospital where he was treated for close to nine months. During this period, he also managed to evade the police. However, he was later caught by the Mumbai Police in Chennai.

New CCTV footage has now surfaced, putting Patil’s claims into question. In the video, Patil is seen deliberately slipping while descending the stairs at the police station. The footage serves as a counter-narrative to Patil’s earlier claim of falling accidentally, sparking debate about the legitimacy of his extended medical treatment.
