Drink And Drive Cases Increase In Pune, 293 Fined This Year While Over 12k Cases Reported In The Last Five Years
Pune 16th Oct 2023: The Pune traffic police have recorded increasing trend in the number of drink and drive cases his year as 293 people have been fined for driving under the influence of alcohol till September. This is far more compared to the last two years as 55 cases were reported in 2021 while only 37 cases were reported last year.
However, the officials also highlighted that the cases have reduced after the COVID Pandemic as the traffic police had fined the highest 10,311 motorists in 2019 for drink and drive while 1,324 were fined in 2020. A total of 12,020 people have been fined for violation for driving under the influence of alcohol in the city in the last five years. Though, the number of violators is comparatively low in the last three years it is not clear whether the traffic department has not run enough campaigns to penalise the violators.
It is important to note that the traffic department increases action against drink and drive cases during the year end celebration and select festivals.
