Pune : Minor Girl From Bangladesh Kept In Confinement For Over Two Weeks In Budhwar Peth And Pushed Into Prostitution, Six Booked

Pune 16th Oct 2023: The Pune City Police have rescued a 17-year-old girl from Bangladesh from the clutches of an agent and his sister who runs a brothel in Budhwar Peth area of the city. The girl was kept in confinement for over 15 days in the red light area of Budhwar Peth and she was pushed into prostitution by the accused.

The incident came to light after the victim managed to flee from the confinement on October 13 and called the Pune City Police’s control room for help. The police team then investigated the matter and two accused identified as Yusuf Mulla (21) and his sister Tahira (25) have been arrested in the case. Yusuf, according to police, brought the girl in Pune from Solapur while Tahira runs a brothel in Budhwar peth area.

The girl was brought in India by an agent on pretext of offering job. The accused made her Aadhar Card by submitting forged documents. She was first taken to Palghar by one of the accused where she was sexually assaulted and later she was taken to Chennai on pretext of giving job. However, one of the relatives of the accused sexually assaulted her after which she contacted the agenct who helped her reach India and demanded that she be returned to her country.

The girl was introduced to another person by the agent who took her to Mumbai, married her and forced her into the prostitution. The victim somehow managed to contact her mother in Bangladesh who advised her to contact someone she knew in Solapur. The girl contacted the person in Solapur and reached there for help. In Solapur, she met Yususf who assured to send her back to Bangladesh and brought her to Pune. She was handed over to Tahira who runs a brother in Budhwar Peth area and was forced into prostitution her. As the girl refused, she was kept in confinement for over two weeks till she managed to flee the area on the night of October 13.

A case in this regard has been registered against six people at Swargate Police Station under sections 366, 366(a), 366(b) 367, 368, 370, 370 (a), 373, 375(2)(n), 471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
