Pune, 16th May 2025: In response to heightened security concerns following recent military action, Pune Rural Police have imposed a strict ban on drones and unmanned aerial vehicles across the district. The ban, effective from 16th May to 3rd June, comes after recent India Pakistan tensions. Authorities have observed increased use of drones by Pakistan for reconnaissance and potential retaliatory attacks, raising fears that drones could be used for terrorist activities.

Citing the Maharashtra Police Act of 1951, the Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, has exercised powers to prohibit the use of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, hot air balloons, and similar aerial devices within the Pune Rural jurisdiction. The official order warns that “strict legal action will be taken against those who violate this directive.”

The police have urged the public to comply fully with the ban during the specified period. Anyone found flying drones or similar devices in violation of the order is instructed to immediately report the incident to the main control room at 020-25657171 or contact the nearest police station helpline.

This decisive move aims to prevent any misuse of aerial technology for surveillance or terrorist operations in the wake of increased cross-border tensions and recent evidence of drone involvement in hostile activities.
