Pune, 30th May 2025: The Pune Rural District administration has issued an official order c by private individuals, event management agencies, and professional photographers. According to the directive, it is now mandatory to inform the concerned police station at least seven days in advance and obtain formal permission from the officer in charge before using a drone camera for any purpose.

This order comes in light of the security concerns associated with drone usage. The district is home to several important religious sites, dams, and central institutions, raising the risk of surveillance and potential misuse of drone footage in terrorist activities. Furthermore, multiple complaints have been received regarding unidentified drones flying at night in areas such as Daund, Baramati, and Shirur talukas, causing fear among local residents.

Authorities also expressed concern over the possible use of drones by sand mafias for illegal monitoring and the potential for theft or other crimes using drone surveillance. Hence, these precautionary restrictions have been enforced to maintain law and order.

The ban includes all aerial objects such as drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, hot air balloons, and similar devices. Any private individual, event management agency, or photography professional intending to use a drone must inform the local police station seven days in advance and secure proper authorization.

Violation of this order will result in legal action under Section 233 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), formerly Indian Penal Code. Additional District Magistrate Jyoti Kadam, who issued the order, emphasized that unauthorized drone usage for filming or surveillance will attract strict legal consequences.
