Pimpri, 23rd September 2025: A 65-year-old retired government employee in Pimpri-Chinchwad was defrauded of Rs 1 crore by a group of fraudsters who posed as a senior police officer and a courier company official, police said. The scammers allegedly convinced the woman that a parcel she had ordered contained drugs, along with documents and laptops, and threatened her with arrest.

The incident, which occurred online between September 3 and 11, came to light after the victim filed a complaint at the Cyber Police Station. Following her complaint, a case has been registered against six individuals, including two bank account holders used by the accused.

Senior Police Inspector Ravikiran Nale of the Cyber Police Station stated that the accused coerced the woman into depositing Rs 1 crore into bank accounts under their control. After receiving the money, the suspects disappeared without returning any amount. The Cyber Police are investigating the case to trace and apprehend the fraudsters.

Police have urged citizens to exercise caution when dealing with unknown callers claiming to be officials, and to verify any suspicious requests before transferring funds.
