Drunk Driving Crackdown in Pune: 242 Motorists Fined Over 4 Days
Pune, 29th December 2025: The Pune City Traffic Police conducted a four-day special enforcement drive against drunken driving across the city, taking legal action against 242 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to an official press note issued by the Pune City Traffic Department, the special drive was carried out from December 25 to December 28, 2025. During this period, traffic police teams set up multiple checkpoints and nakabandis at key locations in different parts of the city to check motorists for alcohol consumption.
The department stated that a total of 242 drivers were found driving vehicles after consuming alcohol during the intensive checks. Legal action was initiated against all offenders under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The violators were fined, and further legal procedures were followed as per the law.
Senior traffic officials said the special drive was aimed at curbing road accidents, particularly during the year-end festive season when incidents of drunk driving tend to rise. The police emphasized that driving under the influence of alcohol poses a serious threat not only to the driver but also to pedestrians and other road users.
The Pune City Traffic Police have appealed to citizens to strictly follow traffic rules and avoid driving after consuming alcohol. The department warned that drunken driving is a serious offence and significantly increases the risk of fatal accidents. Citizens were urged to act responsibly to ensure their own safety as well as that of others on the road.
The traffic department has indicated that similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to maintain road safety and discipline across Pune city.
