Viman Nagar, 29th December 2025: A 60-year-old woman died after being hit by a bus while walking on the road at Gangapuram Chowk in the MHADA Colony area of Viman Nagar on Monday morning, police said.
According to the police, the accident occurred during morning hours when the bus struck the pedestrian at the junction. The woman sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. The incident captured on CCTV shows that the bus hit her while taking turn.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) said the bus driver has been taken into custody. “The pedestrian was walking on the road when the bus dashed into her. The driver is currently in our custody. Prima facie, he does not appear to be under the influence of alcohol, but he will be sent for a medical examination as per procedure,” the officer said.
The incident has once again raised concerns over traffic management and road safety at Gangapuram Chowk. Social activist Qaneez Sukhrani pointed out structural issues at the junction, stating that it often leads to confusion among motorists. “At this chowk, three roads are two-way while one road is one-way. This creates confusion for drivers and increases the risk of accidents,” she said.
Vimantal (Airport) Police Station officials are conducting further investigation. A case is being registered, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
The accident has triggered fresh demands from local residents and activists for better traffic planning, clearer signage, and stricter enforcement of traffic rules in Viman Nagar, an area that witnesses heavy vehicular movement throughout the day.
