New Delhi, March 05, 2025: Concerns over fair elections have intensified after reports emerged of duplicate EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) numbers being issued to multiple voters.

This anomaly has raised questions about the accuracy of voter records and the potential threat it poses to the integrity of elections.

The issue came to light when several voters reported receiving identical EPIC numbers, which are meant to uniquely identify each voter.

Duplicate IDs can lead to confusion during polling and may even allow individuals to vote multiple times, thereby undermining the democratic process. Election experts have called for immediate corrective measures to address this alarming issue.

According to a senior Election Commission official, “Duplicate voter IDs often occur due to clerical errors or data migration issues during the digitization of electoral rolls.”

The official emphasized that while these errors are unintentional, they can have serious implications if not rectified promptly.

The Election Commission has assured citizens that steps are being taken to resolve the issue. A nationwide verification drive is being planned to identify and eliminate duplicate entries in the electoral database.

Additionally, voters are encouraged to check their details on the official voter portal and report any discrepancies immediately.

Political analysts warn that such irregularities could erode public trust in the electoral system. “Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of democracy,” said political commentator Rajesh Mehta.

“Even minor lapses in voter identification can lead to significant consequences, especially in closely contested elections.”

The problem of duplicate EPIC numbers is not new but has gained renewed attention ahead of upcoming state elections.

Advocacy groups have urged the Election Commission to implement stricter data validation protocols and leverage advanced technologies like blockchain for secure voter registration processes.

As India prepares for another crucial election cycle, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of its electoral rolls remains a top priority.

The Election Commission’s ability to address these challenges effectively will be critical in maintaining public confidence in the democratic process.
