New Delhi, 29th October 2025: xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, has launched a new AI-powered encyclopedia named Grokipedia, positioning it as a direct competitor to Wikipedia. Described by Musk as a “truthful and bias-free alternative,” the platform aims to redefine how online knowledge is created and shared.

The website went live on October 27 but crashed soon after due to a surge in traffic. It has since been restored. Musk described Grokipedia as a “truth-seeking knowledge base,” designed to counter what he calls Wikipedia’s “ideological narratives and propaganda.” The platform is powered by xAI’s proprietary chatbot, Grok, trained on real-time data from the internet and Musk’s X platform (formerly Twitter).

Key Features
Grokipedia operates on xAI’s Grok model, which automatically generates, fact-checks, and edits content with minimal human intervention. The platform promises “faster, more factual, and less politically biased” information. Unlike Wikipedia, users cannot directly edit articles, but they can flag inaccuracies or request corrections.

Its interface mirrors Wikipedia’s simplicity, featuring a clean homepage labeled “Grokipedia v0.1” with a basic search bar. The current beta version is functional, and Musk has claimed that the upcoming version 1.0 will be “10 times better.”

Content and Sources
Currently, Grokipedia hosts more than 885,000 articles. Much of its content originates from Wikipedia, utilized under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license. While Wikipedia relies on a global network of volunteers who write and moderate content through open discussions, Grokipedia automates the process using AI.

Musk asserts that this approach eliminates bias and focuses on verifiable facts. “Wikipedia is biased; Grokipedia is truth-seeking,” Musk posted on X, highlighting a philosophical shift from community-driven to AI-driven knowledge creation.

Future Plans
According to Musk, Grokipedia’s beta launch is just the beginning. The next major version, v1.0, will feature a significantly larger content base and improved accuracy. A team of human editors is expected to join the AI system in the future to enhance reliability and uphold Musk’s vision of a “truth-seeking” platform.

If successful, Grokipedia could redefine how information is produced and trusted online. As part of xAI’s broader mission to “understand the universe,” the encyclopedia aims to become a cornerstone of factual and unbiased digital knowledge.
