Pune 5th July 2023: The officials of the Pune division of Railways have accepted the frequent problem reported in the escalators at the Pune Railway Station but they have also blamed the passengers for the problem. According to railway officials, the automatic escalators at the Pune Railway Station stop working at least 8 to 10 times a day.

“At present, the major reasons for failure of escalators include screws and baggage chain getting stuck in escalators, emergency button being pressed unnecessarily, improper handling of luggage, etc. Escalators stop 8-10 times on daily average basis and they are repaired in 10 -15 minutes. Passengers are requested to please pay attention to these so that the escalators run smoothly” said Public Relations Officer of the Pune division of Railways.

“Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) is working on developing a software-controller for maintenance of escalators installed at various stations of Central Railway which will be an online asset monitoring system and real time base monitoring of working of escalators. It will take some time to implement” he added.

A total of five automatic escalators have been installed at the Pune Railway Station. They were installed in 2019 and have a codal life of 20 years. The railway official said that the maintenance is done on a monthly basis to ensure that the escalators are always functional to serve the passengers. In case of any failure, SMS alerts are also sent directly to the on duty staff, inspectors and officers. The staff takes immediate action to repair the failure.
