Railways Conduct Digital census of Locomotives in Pune Division
Pune 5th July 2023: The officials of the Pune division of Railways conducted digital census of all the locomotives running over the Pune division on Tuesday. An online application created by Centre For Railway Information Systems (CRIS) is used to collect all the details of locomotives viz. Loco number, Home Shed, Service domain, Geographical location (Latitude and longitude), Photo and so on. During the census, a total of 131 Locomotives were found over the Pune division.
The activity was planned by the Indian Railways at all 17 railway zones and freight corridors across the country with an aim to ensure better optimization of locomotive usage, preventive maintenance of locomotive, digital data set of asset etc. The comprehensive data of almost 16,000 locomotives was collected by the Indian Railways.
Similar type of census for wagons was conducted over Indian railways in which data of more than 3 Lakh wagons was collected. Both these activities combined will result into efficient planning of freight, ease in logistics and real time tracking of freight consignment, said the railway officials.
