Extensive Security Arrangements in Place for Peaceful Polling in Pune
Pune, 19th November 2024: Comprehensive security measures have been planned across Pune city and district to ensure a peaceful polling day for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. A total of 600 police officers, 6,800 police personnel, and 1,750 Home Guard personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order. Sensitive polling stations will receive additional security from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Central Forces, and 45 specialized personnel. CCTV cameras will monitor sensitive locations to enhance surveillance.
Preparations are being led by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma. The police department has established a special team to prevent voting malpractices and imposed prohibitory orders around polling station areas. Police Commissioner Kumar warned of strict action against anyone violating these orders.
Home Guard personnel will be stationed at all polling stations, and video surveillance will cover polling areas. Quick Response Teams have been instructed to respond to any untoward incidents within 5 to 10 minutes.
Preventive measures have already been implemented to ensure public safety. Since the enforcement of the election code of conduct, the police have acted against 1,700 individuals with criminal records. On polling day, Crime Branch teams, led by Additional Commissioner Shailesh Balakawade and senior officers Nikhil Pingle, Ganesh Ingle, and Rajendra Mulik, will patrol various parts of the city.
