Face Recognition Glitch? Exam Centres Prepared with Backup Verification as Maharashtra TET Sees Record 4.75 Lakh Registrations
Pune, 20th November 2025: What happens if a candidate’s face recognition fails at the gate of a Maharashtra TET centre? According to officials, the system is designed with multiple layers of human and digital checks — ensuring no genuine aspirant is turned away. This year’s Teacher Eligibility Test, scheduled for November 23, will be conducted under one of the most advanced security frameworks the state has ever deployed, as a record 4,75,668 candidates prepare to appear across 37 districts.
The Maharashtra State Council of Examination has equipped all 1,420 exam centres with AI-powered CCTV cameras, biometric scanning, live surveillance, and two new tools, Photo View and Connect View, to block impersonation and curb copying. The council has stressed that the security setup is designed not only to stop fraud but also to authenticate genuine candidates even in rare cases where technology might misread data.
In his circular, Examination Council Chairman Dr. Nandkumar Bedse outlined the statewide arrangements. Of the total registrations, 2,03,333 candidates will appear for Paper 1, while 2,72,335 candidates have opted for Paper 2. Subject-wise, Paper 1 has 1,01,794 aspirants for Mathematics and 1,70,541 for Social Science. A total of 569 centres are fixed for Paper 1 and 851 centres for Paper 2.
Every classroom and surrounding zone has been covered by AI-enabled cameras monitored in real time from the Education Officer’s Office as well as the Examination Council’s central control room. Candidates will be screened using hand-held metal detectors, and entry will be allowed only after facial authentication. If the face recognition system generates a mismatch, centre heads will cross-check government ID proofs and admit cards before allowing the candidate to proceed.
The council has issued strict guidelines banning mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, and all electronic gadgets. Any attempt at impersonation or proxy attendance will lead to immediate criminal proceedings, officials warned.
To further bolster security, the newly integrated Photo View and Connect View systems will assist in verifying photographs, comparing digital profiles, and identifying suspicious entries. Council officials have urged candidates to follow only the official website for authentic instructions and ignore misinformation circulating on social media.
