Fake Email Scam: Construction Firm In Pune Loses Rs. 14 Lakhs to Cyber Thieves
Pune, 23rd May 2023: A construction company official fell victim to cyber thieves who deceived him of Rs 14 lakhs through a fraudulent email. The Mundhwa police station, Pune, has registered a case in connection with this cybercrime.
The victim, Satish Pandharinath Daundkar, Assistant Manager of Shirke Construction Technology Pvt. Ltd., lodged a complaint at Mundhwa Police Station. Initial investigations by the police have revealed that the fraudsters utilized the email ID of a company representative to execute their fraudulent scheme.
Under the guise of the representative, the criminals sent an email instructing company officials to transfer Rs. 14 lakhs to a designated bank account. Unfortunately, the unsuspecting victim complied and transferred the funds as directed. The fraudulent nature of the incident came to light during an audit, prompting the victim to file a complaint with the police.
Senior Police Inspector Ajit Lakde is overseeing the investigation into the matter.
