Fancy Number Craze: Pune RTO’s 2023 Revenue Hits Rs 47 Crore, ‘1’ Sells for Rs 12 Lakh

Pune, 4th January 2024: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has witnessed a significant surge in revenue from fancy number allocations in the year 2023, surpassing the figures from the previous year.

In 2022, RTO Pune reported a total revenue of ₹33,50,57,851 from fancy number allocations, comprising a fee of ₹31,78,32000 and an auction amount of ₹17225851. Fast forward to 2023, and the numbers have witnessed a remarkable increase, with a total revenue of ₹47,14,96,807. The fee collected in 2023 amounted to ₹43,53,91000, and the auction brought in ₹36105807.

The demand for fancy numbers has also seen a notable rise. In 2022, vehicle owners in Pune secured a total of 40103 fancy numbers, a figure that escalated to 50941 in the following year, showcasing a growing trend in the preference for unique registration numbers.

A highlight from the data reveals that the highest amount paid for a specific number ‘1’ reached ₹12,00000, a remarkable sum considering it was chosen from a series other than the usual LMV series.

These figures not only indicate a robust interest in personalized registration numbers but also underscore the economic significance of fancy number allocations for RTO Pune. As vehicle owners continue to seek distinctive identifiers for their vehicles, the revenue generated from such preferences is poised to play a vital role in the RTO’s financial landscape.
