Fatal Mishap at Pune’s Chandni Chowk: Iron Rods from Truck Kill Driver, Injure Assistant

Bavdhan, 12th June 2025: A horrific accident unfolded at Chandni Chowk on the Pune-Mumbai highway after a container truck loaded with iron rods suffered a critical mishap on Thursday night, leading to the death of the driver and leaving the cleaner seriously injured.

The vehicle, en route to Mumbai, was transporting heavy iron rods typically used in construction work. According to preliminary accounts, the accident occurred when the driver suddenly applied brakes near the Chowk. The abrupt halt caused the unsecured rods to surge forward from the rear of the truck, violently piercing into the driver’s cabin.

The impact proved fatal for the driver, who died on the spot. The assistant, trapped in the wreckage, was gravely injured and later shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Visuals from the scene have been widely shared on social media, showing the aftermath of the collision. The video reveals the truck’s cabin impaled by several iron rods, with bystanders and local residents trying to assist.

Some attempted to manually remove the rods in a desperate bid to rescue the trapped men, but the sheer size and weight of the material made the task difficult.

The incident led to heavy traffic snarls in the Chandni Chowk area for several hours. Police and emergency responders reached the location and worked to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.
