Fire Engulfs Tempo Carrying Chemicals On Pune-Mumbai Expressway

Khopoli, 30th September 2022: At around 12.00 am on Thursday (September 29), a tempo carrying chemical drums from Bhiwandi towards Hyderabad on the Mumbai Pune Expressway caught fire near the Magic Point on Pune Lane. One of the drums in the tempo caught fire in km 42 within the limits of Khopoli Police Station. The tempo is numbered MH 46 BM 0077.

 

As soon as the driver realised that the drum in his vehicle was on fire, he along with his colleague stopped the vehicle on the spot and jumped out of vehicle. In a moment, the fire turned enormous.

 

Police Sub Inspector Anil Shinde of Borghat Traffic Police stopped the traffic on both sides when the flames started to spread all around.

 

After the Khopoli fire brigade reached the spot to control the situation, efforts to extinguish the fire started immediately. Followed by Devdut centre, MIDC Thivanganga, Uttam Company, Tata Steel, and Units of Fire Brigade of HPCL Company participated carried out the operation.

 

Inspector Shirish Pawar of Khopoli Police Station had reached the spot along with his staff. Khopoli Municipality Fire Officer Hari Suryavanshi put his experience to the test and hit the water with the help of a boom, he was assisted by Darshan Ahir, Pen Municipality Fire Officer.

 

Members of the social organization were cooperating with all the agencies on the spot to help the accident victims. After about two hours of joint efforts, the fire was brought under control.

 

The systems like IRB patrolling, Delta Force, Maharashtra Security Force, Home Guard etc. played a vital role in restoring the situation. Meanwhile, the Borghat traffic police system and Khopoli police station staff also handled the heavy traffic congestion on both sides of the lane.
