First Meeting Of Steering Committee Formed For Implementation Of National Educational Policy 2020 Held At Pune University

Pune, 23rd January 2023: The first meeting of the steering committee formed for the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 started at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Dr Nitin Karamalkar, Chairman of the Education Policy 2020 Implementation Committee and former Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) said during this meeting, the implementation of educational policy 2020 in all universities will be reviewed.

The first day of the steering committee meeting organized jointly by the State Higher and Technical Education Department and Savitribai Phule Pune University was held on Monday (January 23).

Senior scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Executive Committee Chairman Dr Bhushan Patwardhan, Director of Higher and Technical Education Department Dr Shailendra Devlankar, Savitribai Phule Pune University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Sanjeev Sonwane, Registrar Dr Prafull Pawar, Skills University Vice Chancellor Dr Apoorva Palkar, Symbiosis University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Vidya Yervadekar, representatives of various universities were present.

Dr Karmalkar informed that in this meeting, the universities visited were discussed. In this, what steps have been taken following the educational policy in each university? What are their problems; has an implementation committee been formed in each university; is its work going on properly? According to the report of the RD Kulkarni Committee, all the actions taken have been reviewed.

Dr Karmalkar also said that on the second day of this meeting, a meeting of the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the state university will be organized, and during this, there will be a discussion about finding a solution to the same issues. Dr Sanjeev Sonwane, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the SPPU also expressed his thoughts in this discussion.

Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, a senior scientist said, “We are implementing the ‘Education Policy 2020 Plus’ policy. While implementing this policy, it should be based on available information rather than opinion. Flexibility and freedom are key elements in this.”

Dr Bhushan Patwardhan, Executive Committee Chairman, NAAC said, “There is a need to fundamentally change this education for the sake of educational policy. There is now a need to create a community of thinkers, re-adopting India’s original educational system.”
