Food and Drugs Minister Holds Review Meeting With FDA Pune, Instructs To Take Strict Action Against Adulteration Of Food Items In Region
Pune 12th Oct 2023: In a move aimed at safeguarding citizens’ health and well-being, the Ministry of Food and Drug Administration of Maharashtra Dharmaraobaba Atram has issued stringent directives to ensure the availability of clean and unadulterated food items in Pune region. He held a review meeting with the officials of FDA Pune in the city on Thursday. Emphasizing the importance of citizens’ health and public welfare, the minister has called for strict actions against vendors who adulterate food products.
The meeting was organized by the Food and Drug Administration Department at the VIP Rest House in the city and Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner (Food), S.V. Prataprao, Joint Commissioner (Drugs) and other assistant commissioners from the Food and Drug Administration Department were present. The Minister highlighted the necessity of purchasing diverse confectionery items for citizens during festive occasions. He stressed the importance of citizens having access to pure and clean food products.
Regular inspections of the cleanliness of hotel kitchens are to be conducted and prompt action should be taken on complaints received at offices, he said. The minister also noted the increasing trend of online purchases and said that monitoring these transactions is also crucial. Periodic checks of products from cosmetic, allopathic and ayurvedic manufacturers were deemed necessary and consumers were advised to remain vigilant, he said.
He also assured to strengthen the Food and Drug Administration by hiring sixty employees externally. Funds have been approved for the construction of a building for training and laboratory for FDA. The minister also assured that the lack of funds will not hinder any administrative hurdles and problems related to the office spaces at some locations will also be solved on priority.
