Pune 18th Sept 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to take a concrete step to solve the pothole problems in the city. The civic body has come up with an idea to use the material mostly used in foreign countries and highways to fill the potholes. According to the municipal corporation, a tender will be floated to get bids from the companies supplying high strength modified polymer concrete that will be used to repair roads in the city.

The decision to use high strength modified polymer concrete has been taken to solve the pothole problems which the civic body is facing every year during the monsoon. The municipal corporation carries out repair of potholes but during the monsoon season the repairs do not last long and the commuters face difficulties while traveling on the road. According to officials, the polymer concrete prevents the cracks and joint damage on the cement roads and it further improves the durability of the asphalt pavements.

It may be noted that the civic body faces criticism every year due to recurrent potholes during the rainy season which often leads to heavy traffic jams and accidents in the city. The Municipal Corporation spends around Rs 8 crore every year to fill the potholes. Besides, several private organisations such as Adar Poonnawalla’s firm have also deployed their vehicles and employees to fill potholes under the CSR initiative. However, the problem still exists due to which the officials have now decided to use the material that is mostly used in foreign countries or highways.
