Pune, 5th February 2026: In a major action against illegal arms possession, the Anti-Extortion Cell Team-2 of the Crime Branch, Pune City Police, seized four country-made pistols and five live cartridges and detained two notorious criminals from the Shivajinagar area on Tuesday.

According to police officials, the operation was carried out during crime-prevention patrolling and intelligence gathering within the Pune Police Commissionerate limits. Acting on a tip-off received by constables Surendra Jagdale and Prashant Shinde, the team was informed that a police-listed accused, Rohit Durgesh Dharmadhikari, would arrive near Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk, Shivajinagar, carrying a firearm.

After informing senior officers, the police laid a trap at the spot and apprehended Rohit Durgesh Dharmadhikari (24), a resident of Old Sangvi, along with his associate Abhishek Raju Tenkel (23), a resident of Shivajinagar.

During a search conducted as per due legal procedure, police recovered four iron country-made silver-coloured pistols with magazines, valued at ₹1.60 lakh, and five live KF 7.65 mm cartridges, valued at ₹4,000. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹1.64 lakh.

Police said both accused have prior criminal records and have been taken into custody for further investigation. Officials are probing the source of the weapons and examining whether the duo was planning any criminal activity in the city.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officers of the Pune City Police and executed by the Extortion Cell Team-2 of the Crime Branch.

Further investigation is underway.
