Pune Sees Slight Dip in Night Temperature; Air Quality Remains Moderate
Pune, 6th February 2026: The city recorded a marginal drop in night-time temperature on Friday, February 6, bringing a brief return of winter chill. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune’s minimum temperature, which had remained steady at 14°C for nearly a week, dipped slightly to 13.8°C.
Though the fall was minimal, it was enough to increase the cold during the early morning hours. Pune experienced stronger winter conditions in November and December, but January saw relatively milder nights due to the impact of western disturbances and increased moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD’s monthly outlook for February has indicated above-normal temperatures for the month. Accordingly, minimum temperatures in Pune have largely stayed above normal since the beginning of February. However, a reduction in moisture levels and clearer skies allowed cooler northerly winds to influence the city, leading to the slight dip in minimum temperature on Friday.
Weather experts say this cooling trend is likely to be short-lived. Former head of IMD Pune’s weather forecasting division, Anupam Kashyapi, stated in a social media post that the IMD’s Extended Range Forecast suggests a rise in night temperatures over North and Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune, as well as Gujarat, northwest Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in the coming days.
He added that minimum temperatures may remain below normal in the rest of Maharashtra, eastern Madhya Pradesh and eastern India till the end of February, while daytime temperatures are expected to stay above normal across several regions. This could increase the diurnal temperature variation and impact standing rabi crops.
Meanwhile, Pune’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 165. However, Lohegaon and Hadapsar monitoring stations reported ‘poor’ air quality, with AQI levels crossing the 200 mark.
