Four Days Of Heavy Rainfall In Ghat Sections Reduces Rain Deficit, Increase Water Storage In Pune

Pune 23rd July 2023: As rural areas in Pune are reporting a good rainfall for the last few days the rain deficit for the current year has been reduced while the water storage in the dams that supply water to Pune has also increased. According to officials, the rain deficit for the Pune district has been decreased from 28% to 14% in the last four days.

Though rainfall deficiency in the district is more compared to the last year, the reavy rainfall reported in the ghat areas has increased the water storage in the dams. According to the official data, the overall storage of four dams Khadakwasla, Panshet, Warasgaon and Temghar has been increased from 32.67% on July 19 to 52% on July 23.

However, the water storage in these four dams is less compared to last year as they were filled upto 69.18% of their capacity last year compared to 52% reported this year on the same day. The dams currently have 15.16 TMC water compared to 20.17 TMC it had on the same day last year.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a good rainfall in the district for the next few days. An orange alert has been issued for Pune for July 23 while yellow alert has been issued between July 24 and July 26.
