Free JE Vaccination For Children Aged 1-15 Begins In Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad; Over 10 Lakh Children To Be Vaccinated

Pune, 1st March 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccination drive targeting children between 1 and 15 years of age. The campaign, which aims to vaccinate 10,43,420 children, will be conducted across 15 ward offices under the PMC’s Health Department.
Following state government directives, this free vaccination campaign will be rolled out in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Raigad, and Parbhani districts starting today, 1st March 2025. Japanese Encephalitis is a mosquito-borne viral infection that affects the brain, making vaccination a crucial preventive measure. To ensure smooth implementation, 6,692 vaccination sessions have been planned across PMC wards.
The campaign will be conducted in primary and secondary schools, as well as anganwadis across Pune. Before the rollout, Dr. Chetan Khade and Dr. Rajesh Dighe trained designated personnel, who will now train ward-level teams. Medical and nursing colleges will also assist in the effort.
A total of 522 trained vaccine injectors will administer the doses, supported by 365 ASHA workers, 1,092 anganwadi workers, and 848 teachers. Each ward and circle medical officer has been appointed as a coordinating officer for their respective areas. The required vaccines, syringes, and other medical supplies will be distributed from the main vaccination office in Narayan Peth.
