From Professor to Vice Chancellor: Dr Mohan Waman’s Journey Recognised in Pune
Pune, 6th December 2025: Educationist Dr Mohan Waman, a respected figure in Maharashtra’s higher education sector, was felicitated on Friday for his contributions to teaching, research and academic leadership. He has recently been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Dnyaan Prasad Global University, marking a significant milestone in his career.
The felicitation ceremony was held at Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Arts, Commerce and Science in Akurdi. Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhaav, Director of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), and Dr. Sangita Salve, Head of the Department of Economics at Arvind Telang College, presented the honours. In-charge Principal Dr. Mukesh Tiwari, Head of the Department of Economics Dr. Minal Bhosale, along with faculty members and students, attended the event.
Dr Waman began his academic journey as a professor at B.S.T. College, where he contributed significantly to student development through the National Service Scheme (NSS). Since 1997, he has organised mountaineering and adventure camps at Ratanwadi, training thousands of students in rappelling and trekking to build discipline, environmental awareness and leadership skills.
During his tenure as Principal at Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Waman led various initiatives including campus cleanliness drives, water conservation projects, tree plantation and creation of bird-watering ponds. He is credited with planting trees such as betel, neem and chaff in the Ghorwadeshwar region to promote ecological balance.
He also successfully organised national-level conferences in microbiology, economics and botany, and partnered with the Baha’i Institution to promote value-based education focused on human cooperation, ethics and dialogue.
Dr Waman has been part of several committees at SPPU and has previously received honours including the “Innovative Teacher” and “Best Principal” awards. His colleagues and students describe him as a calm, supportive and inspiring mentor.
His appointment as Vice Chancellor is being viewed within academic circles as recognition of his long-standing commitment to advancing higher education.
