Fursungi villagers to oppose open dumping from August 1
Pune – As per the direction of the National Green Tribunal, the Pune municipal corporation (PMC) has to stop open dumping of the wastes at garbage depot. Therefore, from August 1, Fursungi villagers will stop PMC garbage trucks from entering the depot.
The villagers have demanded regularization of all constructions in Fursungi besides taxes like before should be imposed. Meanwhile, the administration has taken decision not to succumb to pressure from the villagers. So, it has to be seen what steps villagers are going to take on Wednesday (August 1).
Reacting to the reasons for not fulfilling the promises of assurances, the action committee has warned the municipal corporation to take action against the garbage depot. However, the demands made by the action committee were shocking, as both of these villages have unauthorized constructions. Now the committee has to do all the work done so far and make the taxation according to the rules of the corporation. Unless the elections are held, the decision has to be taken to stop the corporation by making such demands as to the gram panchayat’s implementation.
Last week PMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao held a meeting about the inclusion of the 11 villages in the PMC limit.
The PMC has enagged in open dumping of garbage at Uruli Devachi. But under the law, open dumping is banned. The court has ordered the corporation to shutdown open dumping.
The villagers have also protested from time to time against this. The Chief Minister and PMC has promised villagers to stop the garbage depot and also promised development works there. Accordingly, the PMC is working on some development works.
The administration has spent billions of rupees for development works in both the villages of Uruli Devachi and Fursungi. However, the villagers have once again taken the PMC to task.
