Gadkari Announces FASTag Annual Pass to Launch on August 15: Check Key Details

New Delhi, 4th July 2025: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced the launch of the FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, aimed at providing major benefits to private vehicle owners who frequently use toll plazas. The initiative is expected to save time for commuters and ease congestion at toll booths.
The Annual Pass will be valid for one year or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first, at selected fee plazas on national highways (NH) and national expressways (NE). Once activated, there will be no per-trip charges for the user.
According to the government, the FASTag Annual Pass can only be activated via the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application or the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) website. Activation will be allowed after verifying the vehicle and associated FASTag’s eligibility. Following verification, users must pay ₹3,000 for the 2025–26 financial year through the app or the NHAI website, after which the pass will be activated within two hours on their registered FASTag.
If a vehicle already has a valid FASTag, there is no need to purchase a new one. The Annual Pass can be linked to the existing FASTag, provided it is correctly affixed to the vehicle’s windshield, connected to a valid Vehicle Registration Number (VRN), and not blacklisted.
The pass will remain valid for one year from the activation date or for 200 trips, whichever comes first. Once this limit is reached, the Annual Pass will automatically revert to a standard FASTag, and the user will need to reactivate it if desired.
Officials have clarified that the Annual Pass is non-transferable and will be valid only for the registered vehicle. If a user attempts to use it on another vehicle, the pass will be deactivated.
Additionally, FASTags registered only with a chassis number will not be eligible for the Annual Pass. Such users must update their VRN details before activating the new facility.
Regarding the definition of a single trip under this system, authorities explained that each crossing through a point-based toll plaza will be counted as one trip, while a round trip (to and from the toll point) will be counted as two trips.
Importantly, the Annual Pass is not mandatory. The existing FASTag system will continue to operate normally for those who choose not to opt for the Annual Pass.
However, the detailed information is available on the Rajmarg Yatra app and the NHAI website.
