He has been accused of fraud to the tune of Rs 1.18 crore as the building in which he sold flats, is not approved by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Based on a complaint from Kashinath Jadhav (46), a resident of Sainik Residency Phase 11 in Ganesh Nagar, Khadki police station arrested Patil on Friday. A judicial magistrate court today remanded him to three days of police custody. He has been charged for offences under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), informed Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Sahane.

According to police, the building was constructed in 2013. Patil knew that the building was constructed without valid permission from the PMC. However, he went on selling flats in the three-storied building. The residents learnt about the illegal building when they started receiving property tax notice for amount, which was three times the normal charge. Using the Right to Information (RTI) Act, they obtained various documents from the PMC and sub-registrar office to prove that there fraud in selling the flats and shops. He fraudulently registered the documents at sub-registrar office no. 19 in Bopodi.

Now people who have bought flats in various buildings developed by Patil, are checking their building documents. “Patil had earlier promised to pay the property taxes but later he refused. When the flat was being constructed, Patil had shown me documents claiming he has necessary permissions from the PMC. Now we know that he was lying. In 2015, when I had gone to Patil’s office to enquire about the property tax, he abused and beat me”, said complainant Jadhav.
