Ganeshotsav To Be Celebrated For 12 Days In Maharashtra This Year; Hartalika, Ganesh Chaturthi On Same Day
Pune, 11th September 2026: Ganeshotsav will be celebrated for 12 days this year, a schedule that has occurred again after 2017. The festival will also see a rare overlap, with Hartalika Tritiya and Ganesh Chaturthi falling on the same day — Monday, September 14.
According to astrologer and almanac expert Mohan Date, household Ganesh idols can be installed and worshipped on Monday between 4.50 am and 1.51 pm. Ganesh idols installed by public mandals can also be consecrated after noon. Anant Chaturdashi will be observed on Friday, September 25.
Hartalika Tritiya will prevail at sunrise on Monday, with the Tritiya tithi ending at 7.07 am. Ganesh Chaturthi will begin thereafter.
“Hartalika is observed when Tritiya prevails at sunrise, while Ganesh Chaturthi is observed when Chaturthi prevails during the afternoon. This year, Tritiya is present at sunrise and Chaturthi during the afternoon, bringing both observances on the same day,” Date said.
He said there is no kshaya (omission) or vriddhi (extension) of the Tritiya and Chaturthi tithis this year, resulting in a 12-day Ganeshotsav.
The coincidence of Hartalika Tritiya and Ganesh Chaturthi falling on the same day had also occurred in 2006 and 2009, Date said.
Devotees observing the Hartalika fast should observe it on Monday and break the fast on Tuesday, September 15. Those observing the Rishi Panchami fast should complete the concluding Hartalika rituals before breaking their fast and observe Rishi Panchami on Tuesday as usual.
