Kharadi, 15th July 2026 : An open garbage dump along the Kharadi Bypass–Chandan Nagar stretch on Nagar Road has become a persistent concern for residents, who say the area lacks proper waste management despite being located on one of Pune’s major highways.

Residents alleged that vegetables, clothes, household waste and other garbage are regularly dumped at the roadside, creating unhygienic conditions and an unpleasant environment. They claimed that while garbage collection vehicles operated by the Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) occasionally visit the location, the waste continues to accumulate due to the absence of a permanent waste management system.

Locals have demanded stricter action against illegal dumping and better monitoring of the site to prevent recurring garbage piles.

One resident said, “Garbage keeps getting dumped here every day. Sometimes the collection vehicle comes, but there is no proper system to stop fresh waste from being thrown. This area needs regular monitoring and strict action.”

Another resident said, “This is a prominent stretch along Nagar Road, and such garbage heaps create an unhygienic environment. PMC should install proper waste collection facilities and ensure timely clearance.”

Responding to the issue, Prakash Walgude, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Yerawada–Vadgaonsheri Ward Office, said the civic body has taken note of the complaint.

“I have taken note of this issue. I will discuss it with the sanitation and solid waste management team and work towards a better solution for waste management at this location. I also thank the residents for highlighting this issue,” Walgude said.

Residents have urged the PMC to strengthen waste management, prevent illegal dumping through regular surveillance, and ensure the roadside remains clean to maintain the city’s image and public hygiene.
