Pune, November 7, 2020: The government has relaxed the rules for Work from Home as per the new guidelines issued for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and IT industry.

Under the new rules, there will be a facility for employees to work permanently from home. The new rules will create a favourable environment for other service providers (OSP) to work from home and ‘work from anywhere’. Periodic reporting and other commitments for such companies have been eliminated.

Under the new rules, extended agent / remote agent status (Work from Home / Anywhere) has been approved with certain conditions. It states that the agent at home will be treated as a remote agent of the OSP centre and will be allowed an internet connection. A remote agent should be allowed to work from any place in the country.

The ministry says that these new guidelines will help in giving a faster pace to the industry. This change will make India one of the most competitive IT sectors in the world. The new guidelines are inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Minimum Government, Maximum Governance approach. The new guideline aims to remove unnecessary bureaucratic restrictions so that the industry can focus on new products and solutions.

Freedom given to increase flexibility

The registration requirement for OSP has been completely abolished and BPOs engaged in data-related work have been excluded from the purview of OSP rules. In addition, the submission of bank guarantees, the need for a stable IP, the obligation of regular reporting, penal provisions, etc. have also been removed. Similarly, many other requirements that were preventing companies from adopting ‘work from home’ and ‘work from anywhere’ policies have also been removed. Additional leeway has been given to increase flexibility in this industry.

What is OSP
