Government Launches Tool To Track And Block Unauthorized SIM Cards; Check Key Details Below!

New Delhi, 27th January 2025: To enhance telecom security and curb cyber fraud, the government has introduced a system allowing citizens to track and block unauthorized SIM cards linked to their Aadhaar number. With the rule limiting individuals to nine active SIM cards per Aadhaar—six in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and the Northeast—this initiative aims to prevent misuse of telecom connections.
The Telecom Department’s website, Sanchar Saathi (sancharsaathi.gov.in), offers a convenient way for users to check the number of SIM cards linked to their Aadhaar. It also allows users to report and block unauthorized SIM cards at no cost.
How to Check and Block Unauthorized SIM Cards
1. Visit sancharsaathi.gov.in.
2. Click on “Know Your Mobile Connections” under the “Citizen Centric Services” section.
3. Enter your mobile number and captcha to receive an OTP.
4. After verifying the OTP, a list of all SIM cards linked to your Aadhaar will appear.
5. If a suspicious number is found, report it by selecting “Not required.”
Once reported, the suspicious SIM card will be deactivated within a few days. Citizens are advised to utilize this free service to safeguard their Aadhaar and telecom accounts.
Fines for Exceeding the Limit
As per the latest telecom regulations, individuals are allowed to keep only nine SIM cards active on their Aadhaar. Exceeding this limit can result in fines ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh.
Additional Services on Sanchar Saathi
Apart from tracking SIM cards, the Sanchar Saathi portal provides several useful services:
– Reporting and blocking stolen phones.
– Filing complaints related to cyber fraud and scams.
– Enabling swift action on reported grievances.
The portal aims to empower citizens and mitigate telecom-related scams, ensuring enhanced safety and security.
Authorities urge the public to regularly check their Aadhaar-linked SIMs and utilize the portal to block unauthorized connections, which may otherwise be misused for fraudulent activities
