Government Warns WhatsApp To Withdraw Its New Privacy Policy
New Delhi, 19th May 2021: The ongoing controversy over WhatsApp’s new Privacy Policy is yet not over. WhatsApp has implemented its new privacy policy in many countries, including India, since May 15. The controversy has been going on for five months. The Delhi High Court had sought a reply from the Central Government and WhatsApp regarding the policy.
Meanwhile, information has been received from government sources that if WhatsApp does not withdraw its new privacy policy, strict action will be taken against it. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has ordered WhatsApp to withdraw its new policy. A letter in this regard has also been sent by the Ministry on May 18.
In a letter sent to WhatsApp on May 18, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said that WhatsApp’s new privacy policy is about to end the right to privacy and data security of Indian users.
The letter said that millions of Indian users rely heavily on WhatsApp for communication. By implementing WhatsApp’s new policy, the company has proved to be irresponsible.
Significantly, the case regarding WhatsApp’s new privacy policy is currently under consideration in the Delhi High Court. The ministry has clearly stated that WhatsApp’s new policy is going to break many Indian laws.
The ministry has sought a reply from WhatsApp within seven days and also said that drastic steps could be taken against WhatsApp if a satisfactory reply is not received.
WhatsApp’s privacy policy has come into force since May 15. WhatsApp has said that if you do not accept its new privacy policy, it will not delete your account but will gradually turn off all features.
