Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Return Recovered Stolen Property Worth Rs 6 Crore to Citizens
Pimpri-Chinchwad, 3rd August 2025: In a significant citizen outreach move, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police returned recovered stolen property worth Rs 6 crore to rightful owners, bringing smiles and relief to hundreds of complainants. The property, seized in connection with 231 different cases, was formally handed back during a special event held on Saturday at the Police Headquarters in Nigdi, led by Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey.
Among the returned items were gold ornaments worth Rs 17 lakh (33 tolas), six cars valued at Rs 41 lakh, Rs 5.15 crore in cash, and 167 mobile phones worth Rs 30 lakh. The event saw the presence of Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awhad, Deputy Commissioners Dr. Shivaji Pawar, Bapu Bangar, and Sandeep Atole, along with Assistant Commissioners, senior inspectors, and over 250 citizens.
According to officials, the property was recovered during investigations following FIRs filed by citizens. After completing the legal process and obtaining court orders, the property was returned to its original owners. Citizens expressed gratitude and praised the efficiency of the police department, stating that such initiatives strengthen public trust in the police system.
The Cyber Police Station played a major role in the operation, recovering and returning Rs 5.05 crore linked to cybercrime complaints. Additionally, using the central government’s CEIR portal, police tracked and seized 167 lost or stolen mobile phones, which were then returned to the complainants.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Choubey emphasized the need for vigilance in cybercrime cases. “Most people fall victim to scams due to fear or lack of information. Citizens must be cautious of evolving frauds such as digital arrests or deepfake scams. If targeted, do not panic, immediately approach the police,” he said.
He further noted that while recovering stolen items can sometimes take time, the police remain persistent in their efforts. The implementation of new criminal laws has enabled faster resolution of such cases, particularly through provisions that facilitate swift return of property. “Today’s event stands as proof that stolen property can indeed be recovered and returned, and that citizens must have faith in the police,” Choubey added.
