Hadapsar Railway Terminal Nears Full Operation, Set to Ease Pune Station Rush
Reported By Amit Singh
Pune, 08 April 2025: The Hadapsar railway terminal is set to become fully operational soon, with construction progressing rapidly following the green signal from the district collector on land acquisition. Railway authorities have confirmed that key formalities remain before full-scale operations can begin. Currently, Hadapsar station is partially operational, with two trains either originating from or terminating at the station.
Hadapsar Station is being developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The scheme, launched by the Indian Railways, aims to modernize and redevelop railway stations across the country, focusing on enhancing passenger experience and amenities.
Key Features of ABSS:
- Modernization of stations with upgraded passenger amenities.
- Well-designed traffic circulation for efficient movement within the station.
- Inter-modal integration to ensure smooth connectivity with other modes of transport.
- Clear signage to guide passengers effectively.
- Additional amenities including better station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lifts/escalators, improved cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products, enhanced passenger information systems, and landscaping.
According to officials from the Pune railway division, significant development work has been completed at Hadapsar. A circulating area has been constructed, and parking facilities are being developed. The station presently consists of two main lines, two loop lines, and one common loop line. Upon full development, the infrastructure will expand to include three platforms, three loop lines, two stabling lines, and two main lines.
To accommodate additional trains, an additional full-length loop line and a stabling line will be required. Land acquisition had been a major obstacle in the development process, but with clearance granted, the railway authorities are moving swiftly towards completion.
Meanwhile, infrastructure development is also underway at Khadki station. Currently, there are two stabling lines at Khadki, but they are being extended to accommodate full-length trains. Additionally, efforts are being made to improve train maintenance and passenger amenities. Plans are in place to initiate some train services from Khadki to Mumbai once upgrades are complete. The station will also see the addition of three new platforms.
“Hadapsar and Khadki, both these terminals will play an important role in reducing the crowd at Pune station. We are committed to the new lines, train maintenance facilities and passenger amenities being provided in Hadapsar and Khadki. Soon the movement of official trains will start from there. This project is being given priority by the Railway Ministry,” said Padmasinh Jadhav, ADRM, Pune Division.
