Pune, September 10, 2020: Taking steps after an exodus of complaints by the COVID patients and their relatives, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reduced down the bill amount of over Rs 88 lakh to the private hospitals and have returned the amount to the patients.

Majority of the hospitals compel the patients’ relatives to deposit Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 while admitting the patient. Later, keep giving bills of various treatment procedures that were followed. This ended up the patient paying nearly Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh as a hospital bill.

PMC assistant medical officer Dr Manisha Naik said, “from August 14 to September 9 we received over 311 complaints from the citizens regarding over-charging by the private hospitals. Among it, 186 complains were from private hospitals where the hospitals had received over Rs five crore. We have formed a team of an auditor and a doctor.”

She further informed, “This team will check how the bill has been divided into various section heads like PPE kit, medicines, bed charges, doctor’s visit charges. We appeal to the people to register their complaints with us and we will look into the genuine complaints.”
