Heavy Rain Predicted For Visarjan Day In Pune, IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Next Two Days

Pune 27th Sept 2023: The city’s grand processions to say good bye to ganesh festival will witness a heavy rain on Thursday as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the district till September 29. A total of over 2,000 ganesh mandals from the city will take part in the processions on the last day of the festival, said police.
According to IMD, the district is likely to witness ‘heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning at isolated places’ on September 27 and 28 while ‘thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph) at one or two places’ has been predicted for September 29. The municipal corporation and city police are prepared for the visarjan day as a heavy crowd of devotees is expected to join the procession on September 28.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited (MSEDCL) has urged the ganesh mandals to take necessary precautions to avoid any untowards incident due to electricity during the rain. The police have already issued guidelines for the ganesh mandals to follow during the procession.
The city has been witnessing a good rainfall for the last few days. Several areas in the district including Chinchwad and Talegaon have reported over 50 mm rain in the last 24 hours while Pashan recorded 43 mm rain, Shivajinagar 37.9 mm and Koregaon Park has recorded 29 mm rain.
