Lonavala, 5th July 2026: Continuous heavy rainfall across the Sahyadri hill ranges has transformed Lonavala into one of Maharashtra’s most popular monsoon destinations, drawing thousands of tourists over the weekend. The incessant rain has caused streams, rivulets and seasonal waterfalls to overflow, creating picturesque landscapes across the hill station.

Popular tourist attractions, including Bhushi Dam, Lion’s Point, Tiger Point, Karla Caves, Bhaja Caves and the Malavli region, witnessed a massive influx of visitors on Saturday and Sunday. Tourists were seen enjoying the cool weather, mist-covered hills, lush greenery and cascading waterfalls that have come alive with the monsoon.

The surge in tourist arrivals led to heavy traffic congestion on roads leading to Bhushi Dam and at several stretches of the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. To manage the increased traffic, police deployed additional personnel and implemented special traffic management measures at key locations to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles.

Meanwhile, authorities have issued a safety advisory, warning that persistent rainfall has significantly increased the flow of water in streams and waterfalls. Tourists have been urged to avoid venturing into overflowing water bodies, stay away from hazardous locations, and refrain from taking selfies or engaging in risky activities near waterfalls and steep cliffs.

Officials have appealed to visitors to strictly follow safety guidelines, cooperate with the administration, and exercise caution while enjoying Lonavala’s monsoon beauty to help prevent accidents and ensure a safe travel experience.
