Pune, 20th December 2024: Helicopters were extensively used for campaigning during the election period. Now, with increasing passenger demand, helicopters are being used for joy rides. The demand for helicopters for tourism and pilgrimage from Pune is growing, with approximately five flights operating daily. This surge has led to significant economic activity in Pune’s aviation sector. Pune has a high concentration of helicopters and witnessed as many as 6,000 helicopter flights during the election period, including flights from Pune, other parts of the state, and Delhi.

Helicopter rental operators in Pune have introduced ‘Joy Rides,’ which have been well-received by passengers. A 5-10 minute Pune Darshan costs between ₹5,000 and ₹6,000 per passenger. These rides typically accommodate six passengers, as flights are not arranged for fewer than six people. The journey departs from designated helipads near passenger locations, or a helipad chosen by the director if none is nearby, with passengers required to arrive at the appointed time.

The Pune Darshan route highlights landmarks such as Shaniwar Wada, Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai, and other notable sites. The service includes five daily flights, with each 5-10 minute trip costing ₹6,000, while a one-hour flight is priced at ₹1,60,000, offering both convenience and exclusivity.

Helicopters are also in high demand for pilgrimage and tourism from Pune. Popular destinations include Tuljapur, Pandharpur, Shirdi, Bhimashankar, and Shegaon. Many passengers also show interest in visiting forts and other tourist attractions by helicopter. The fare for an hour-long helicopter ride ranges between ₹1,60,000 and ₹1,80,000.

Captain Nitin Welade of Thumby Aviation Pune stated, “Traveling by helicopter is a pleasant experience, which is why many people prefer it. Joy Rides have recently started in Pune and are receiving a positive response. Some passengers also prefer helicopters for tourism purposes.”
